Tasting Room Seminar — March 6, 2012
The Rogue Valley Winegrowers Association (RVWA) will present an “Operating a Successful Tasting Room” seminar on Tues., March 6, 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., at the OSU/Jackson County Extension Service Auditorium, 569 Hanley Rd., in Central Point. The session is designed for people who own or work in a tasting room and those thinking about starting or re-designing one.
Speaker Craig Root of St. Helena, Calif., has more than 30 years of experience working with wine tasting rooms, first as a successful manager then for the past 17 years as a consultant. In his consulting practice, Root has helped to create 60+ new tasting rooms and 100 wine clubs throughout North America. Also, he has analyzed, advised and improved dozens of current operations.
Root will cover these topics and more:
• Wine tasting room design, effective management and operation
• The links between customer service and profitable sales
• Secrets of wine club success
• Acquisition, display and sales of non-wine items
• Avoiding theft and dealing with difficult situations in the tasting room

Legal Seminar - Navigating the legalities of grape
sales and winery operation
RVWA will present a “Wine Legal Issues” seminar
on Tues., March 15, 2:00-5:00 p.m., at the OSU/Southern Oregon Extension
Service Auditorium, 569 Hanley Rd., Central Point. The free event
is open to all RVWA members and other interested people.
A panel of
three prominent Oregon attorneys – Chris Hermann of Stoel
Rives, Martha Pagel with Schwabe Williamson Wyatt, and Mike Gelardi with
Davis Wright Tremaine – will discuss wine and grape contracts, compliance
and regulatory issues, land use, water law and other current topics.
Pre-registration
is not required, but seating is limited to 120. For

more than 125 members in the Rogue Valley, representing commercial growers and

Oregon Department of Agriculture Offers Specialty Crop Grant Writing Workshops
The Oregon Department of Agriculture is holding a grant writing workshop to
help those interested in submitting proposals for project funding under Oregon's
Specialty Crop Grant Program. These workshops are designed to help potential
grantees write the most compelling project proposals for the next round of federal
funding, which will be available in January of 2011.
The Medford Grant writing workshop is scheduled for Thursday, December
9, 2010 at S. OR Research & Extension Ctr. on Hanley Road; 1:00-4:00 pm
